The Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre prepares students for professional careers by providing training in three essential elements of musical theatre: music, acting and dance. In addition to multiple performance opportunities, students study the history and literature of musical theatre.
In addition to the general education requirements, to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Musical Theatre students must complete the following:
A student pursuing a major in Musical Theatre must meet the following criteria each semester:
* satisfactory completion of all degree requirements as outlined in this Bulletin;
• participation in all theatrical productions and activities, including auditions, production crews, work calls, and production strikes as assigned by faculty;
• enrollment in THEA 3285 Practicum every semester
• attendance at scheduled performing arts meetings, activities, and productions;
• theatrical/musical proficiency – a grade of “C” or better in all Theatre Arts and Music courses
• a professional work ethic
A student who does not meet all the above criteria each semester may be placed on probation. After the probationary period, the student will be reevaluated by the Musical Theatre faculty. If it is determined that the student has failed to meet the above criteria satisfactorily, then the student will be advised to choose another major.
